There is a lot of confusion surrounding the work at home call center field and I want to give you the minimum criteria UPFRONT. This is what you absolutely, positively must have in order to execute a successful solution to obtaining a work at home job. Ask yourself....
1: Can you work from home? Technical: You need to have a computer with a high speed internet connection, a landline telephone, headsets and a designated place to work away from distractions. Personal: This is literally black or white. Can you pass a background check?. I have a list with links to a site that explains each. Often, financial clients require credit checks, insurance clients require licenses, other reputable organizations require criminal and will also perform employment and education verification, driver's and sex offensives are also part of the city, state and federal list. I was quite surprise to see my driving offense listed, but nonetheless, it's there.
Can you work from home?
2: Are you self-disciplined? Are you going to be where you say you would, doing what you agreeded/contracted to do. Being there is half the battle! Select the shifts and days that will work best with your lifesytle. During one of my 2nd annual review, I again, was awarded points, simply because I was there! If my performance lacked by any degree, the attendance points were sufficient and granted the ability to remain at this position. Are you self-disciplined?
3: Are you committed? Are you willing to learn the ins and outs of doing the job successfully? If you are invited to a webconference to receive more information, you MUST be present and punctual, prepared with assignments and participate. This helps HR recruiters determine your character and if you are a good fit!
Out of a 6 week training period, 5 days a week, on a regular 8 - 5 work day, with a scheduled lunch and 2 breaks, we wre ONLY permitted to miss 15 minutes (and that's lenient) or we were automatically dropped from class. No questions and no exceptions. You have to take care of your business, they have to take care of theirs. Simple. Are you committed?
4: What sacrifices do you have to make? What will you have to give up in order to set up a quiet home office and to work daily? Do you need to get a babysitter for the hours you work? Do you need to shut the office window and get a fan in the summer so your customers aren’t listening to the neighbors mow their lawn. Not answer your cell phone because you’re at work? What sacrifices do you have to make? |
